The NCAA Woman of the Year Award is given annually to a female college athlete who has excelled in academics, athletics, community service and leadership. The award was first given in 1991 and is considered the highest honor that can be bestowed on a female college athlete.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have competed in intercollegiate athletics for at least two years and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. She must also have demonstrated leadership on and off the field and have made significant contributions to her community. The award is judged by a panel of athletic directors, coaches and administrators.
